Error in Solution to 1.43 of OS, 4th edition

wsimonsen

There appears to be an error in the solution key for Exercise 1.43 caused by conflating the raw observational data with the summary table. The solution provided for (a) classifies variables from the aggregated table, including summary statistics like "% searched" that could not have been collected on individual stops, rather than identifying the stop-level variables requested by the prompt (County, State, Race, Car Searched, and Driver Arrested). Consequently, solution (b) ("All categorical, non-ordinal") applies only to those original stop-level variables, directly conflicting with the table-level variables introduced in (a). Clearly distinguishing the raw data from the summary metrics and aligning each answer with its corresponding prompt would resolve this discrepancy.

Hi wsimonsen, thank you for your note! It looks like a solution fix we applied for part (b) instead was incorrectly placed into part (a). I've updated the note in the typos spreadsheet with a Thank You to you, and we'll fix this on the next PDF and paperback refresh.

Thanks,
David
