Information for Authors

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of open-source textbooks in the world. This page is intended for this community of authors.

Author Community

We would like to cultivate a community of open-source authors and increase discussion among this group, and to this end, we have created a private group to facilitate discussion and organization. OER textbook authors may apply to this community using the application found here.

OpenIntro Services for Textbooks

Currently OpenIntro is operating an invite-only pilot program where we work with specific OER textbooks to help them increase usage and adoption. This pilot program includes services such as managing teacher registration and verification, providing free desk copies to teachers (as of Fall 2020, funded by OpenIntro), listing the textbook on a dedicated page and in the OpenIntro menu to increase visibility, and the option of listing teacher-only content on our platform's framework limiting access to Verified Teacher.

Over the long term, we hope to add more textbooks. In the meantime, we encourage open-source authors to join our private community of OER textbook authors to stay up-to-date on the program development and participate in related discussions. We would like to be clear this group is not how candidate books are selected, which is a process following our market research and broader evaluation process.

We are constantly re-evaluating our plans, so we encourage authors to check back occasionally and also provide us with feedback.
